Kävesta folk high school Where knowledge helps
people grow!

ABOUT KÄVESTA FOLK HIGH SCHOOL
Kävesta folk high school is based in the countryside, approximately 20 kilometres from
Örebro and 10 kilometres from Kumla, see a map. The school was founded in 1873, and is one of the oldest in the
country. You can either attend as a day student or as boarder. The studies are full-time.
At Kävesta you can either attend the general studies programme, dance
programme, music programme or the programme for art and design. Through attending the
general studies you may be eligible for further studies at university level. If you have
attended the dance programme, music programme or the programme for art and design you will
receive a certificate.
Folk high school for whom?
Kävesta welcomes all adults, regardless of previous qualifications, experiences and
future plans. You should be at least 18 the year you begin your studies here, but there is
no upper age limit. The folk high school can give the same qualifications for further
studies at university etc as the ordinary upper secondary school and Komvux (municipal
adult education).
To study at a folk high school
is to take the step into a totally different form of adult education. The method of
learning is based on the students previous knowledge and experiences as well as
their goals for the studies. The school is a place where knowledge and inspiration gives
the student the opportunity to grow and develop.
At the folk high school the students work in smaller groups to get to know each other and
to encourage discussions and debates. The studies may at times comprise of different
subjects at the same time in order to provide new ideas and encourage new ways of
thinking. The main aim of studying here is naturally to acquire knowledge but we also
strive to help our students develop and think for themselves as well as provide the
grounds for development.
